The Little Dumbbell is a favorite object amongst observers and resembles its larger and brighter brother,
the Dumbbell Nebula (M27).
A small telescope will reveal this planetary nebula's distinct hourglass shape.
M76 is perhaps the faintest Messier object.
However, its light is distributed over a small area,
which means it can take high magnification quite well.
Averted vision will help you see its two distinct lobes and nebulous wisps.
The Little Dumbbell was once thought to be two different objects, and still has two NGC numbers (650 & 651).
