M32 is the dwarf companion galaxy of the much larger M31 (the Andromeda Galaxy).
It resembles a bright star through binoculars and remains a bright,
slightly elongated glow through a telescope.
The first elliptical galaxy ever discovered, it may have been larger in the past,
but has lost stars in a gravitational tug-of-war with M31.
M32 is unusual because it has no globular clusters surrounding it.
At its core, M32 may harbor a black hole.
