A compressed and rich open cluster that is easy to miss and often overlooked.
M26 has a very small angular size for an open cluster,
spreading across only ¼° of sky.
It is one of the less impressive open clusters in Messier's catalog,
and is partially obscured by interstellar matter.
Notice the four moderately bright stars that form a diamond and
the darker areas devoid of stars in the center of this cluster.
