An open cluster of about 3000 stars, 250 million years old.
In dark skies M11 is visible to the naked eye as a fuzzy ball of light.
In binoculars this rich and compact open cluster is a wonderful sight with many stars of similar
brightness set against the fainter glow of the Milky Way.
Look for the bright 8th magnitude star at the centre of this cluster.
Close inspection might reveal the famous 'V' formation
of stars that resembles a team of ducks in flight.
