M89 and M90 are a pair of galaxies in the Virgo Cluster separated by a mere 40'.
Both can be seen in the same low magnification field of view in a telescope.
M89 is an elliptical galaxy seen as a fuzzy ball with a slightly brighter nucleus region.
M89 has an unusually large, low luminosity halo that extends more than 150,000 light years
from the galaxy's center.
It also has a region that looks like a tail,
which is likely the remains of a dwarf galaxy that is being absorbed by M89.
