Larger and brighter than nearby M6, M7 is an open cluster of about
80 loosely concentrated stars only 800 light years away.
It is plainly visible to the naked eye.
In binoculars M7 looks like a sparkling jewel embedded in the fainter star studded Milky Way background.
M7 lies in perhaps the brightest region of the Milky Way.
This amazing cluster is best seen at lower power.
