A bright globular cluster easily visible in binoculars as a faint glow.
A telescope will clearly show the cluster brightening towards the center.
Higher magnification will begin to resolve some individual members.
A fainter globular cluster, NGC 5053, is less than 1° away and
both clusters can be glimpsed in a telescope under low magnification.
M53 is one of the most distant globular clusters from Earth, lying more than 60,000 light years away.
